I’m a Triathlete?

I’m starting to think this should be in the past tense. I was a triathlete. I have competed in one triathlon since 2008. One. I told myself I was going to take a break when I went back to school, but that was in the fall of 2008. The one triathlon I did I signed up for on a whim during a snowstorm in DC.

When I took my “break” from triathlons I became a runner and somehow have never turned back. One half marathon turned into a marathon which turned into another half marathon and another marathon. You all know how it goes.

I am a swimmer! I started swimming competitively at age 9. I love swimming. I can’t remember the last time I was in a pool.

I had thought 2012 was going to be the year I did a half-Ironman. Hahahaha, No.

The new plan is to do one or two sprints this year.

I pay for a gym membership that has a pool. I really can do more than run. I know without a doubt I can do this. I need to do this. I want to do this. I am adding this to my 2012 goals.

I will be a triathlete again.

Now which ones should I do?

You are what you believe 🙂

And just think of how much better your running willbe from all the triathlon cross training. Lol!

Seriously though – my running has improved tremendously ever since I started tris several years ago 🙂

Thanks. I know I can get back to it. I did 3 years of tris before running. I can only imagine how much that leg of a tri will have improved.

come to Maine! 🙂 my first sprint tri is may 5th and im freaking out a little. i pretty much try not to drown while attempting to swim, and my toes go numb while biking. so, its gonna be a complete shit show. 🙂

Unless you are paying for my bike to fly I am only looking locally. Sprints are tons of fun. I think I have done 11 of them. I am happy to answer any questions.

I vote the Kansas 70.3 in June! Or at the very least you should put this on the to-do list. Definitely one of the best races I’ve done.

Don’t feel too bad about the lack of tri’s. I went from training for IM, to breaking my foot, to only riding my bike if alcohol is involved. 🙂

No way am I doing a half-iron this year. I do like the biking and alcohol thought. You should probably come to Milwaukee for the Fat Tire ride and get drunk with me and my dad.

I was bummed to miss the Tour de Fat last year. Pencil me in for 2012. We have beers to have!

  4. OMG the Fat Tire ride. We went to the party at Humboldt Park afterward last year. Crazy.

You have tons of respect from me for even being able to do a tri. I could never handle the swimming. I’ll stick with training with you for the running portions. 🙂

    1. Renee says:

I went home and went to bed by 8:00pm. No more party for me.

I’ve never done one, but so far my plan is the Pewaukee Tri, have you considered that one?

    1. Renee says:

It is the date of my cousin’s wedding this year. I did Pewaukee in 2007 and backed out in 2008 when they cancelled the swim due to algae.

Lake Mills Triathlon is really nice, our tri friends really love the Silver Lake Triathlon, and I like the Door County one. There’s a nice sprint one in Lake Geneva too. (I’ve either raced or watched most of the local ones!!)

    1. Renee says:

I like Lake Mills. I also really like Verona. I know quite a few of the Madison area ones. I just need to decide.

  7. The Capital View is the following weekend after Lake Mills, I did it last year as my first and it was reallllly well organized. The course was HARD, but a great course too.
I might be looking at the Verona one, and the Janesville one this year, hopefully we decide on the same one?!

    1. Renee says:

I like Verona. I was looking at it yesterday. I may have to look up the Janesville one.
