I swear, if it’s not every 12 months it’s every 15 or so I end up at the orthopedic doctor. This time I went quickly instead of avoiding it. I had heel pain in one foot. It was minimally uncomfortable about 10 days ago. I thought it was just from all the time on my feet after my fun weekend in Madison, then I didn’t think about it for a week. I kind of noticed it after this weekend’s Badger game. I wore the same shoes both weekends so was going to blame them. Then suddenly in the past two days it got really painful so I called the doctor and finagled my way in today. My favorite descriptor I gave the doctor was that the 8 pound cat sat on my foot in the middle of the night and it was really painful.

Two things: I have a bone spur on my left heel and I have plantar fasciitis. This could be related to the bone spur but it also could be random. They have no way of knowing. Thankfully it was nothing worse and he didn’t say no running (sports medicine docs only)! He recommended a bunch of stretches and to wear shoes that are good for my feet (better arch support). I guess I have to go shoe shopping so I’m not just wearing old running shoes around. He did mention the possibility of a stress fracture which of course freaked me put, but the X-Ray turned up nothing.
I went to a different doctor than I had seen previously and I think I have finally found an ortho doc I like.
So basically it’s annoying, but not terrible. And I get new shoes.
oh no! i’m so sorry to hear about your injury! good news that you are still allowed to run on it though. when i was recovering from injury last year i was told to get new shoes for a while as well. ended up in the brooks glycerin 10… really enjoyed that shoe! heal fast my friend! 🙂
Thanks. I was already planning on taking 10 days off while on vacation so I figure that’s not a bad thing.
Well damn! Good that you went in sooner than later. My right knee feels all achy & stupid right now. Hope it heals quickly for you, I know how annoying thse things are.
Ugh!! I hope it heals up and the stretches and new shoes do the trick.
Thankfully this morning I was in significantly less pain than yesterday.
